On 3–4 September 2026, Advocate Aleksandra Penkowska represented the Warsaw Bar Association at the UIA Bar Leaders’ Briefing, held at the Palais des Nations – the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva.
Organised by the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA), the event brought together representatives of bar associations and legal professional bodies from around the world. The discussions focused on the role of the legal profession in today’s world, in particular its responsibility for upholding the rule of law, ensuring access to justice and protecting human rights. Particular attention was given to the situation of individuals and groups particularly vulnerable to human rights violations, including asylum seekers, refugees and migrants, as well as victims of forced labour and human trafficking.
Another important topic was the interplay between intellectual property, artificial intelligence and human rights. The discussions addressed the challenges and opportunities arising from the development of AI and new technologies, as well as the need to take human rights into account when developing policies and regulations in these areas. They also examined the impact of digitalisation and the development of AI on the legal profession, including the need to uphold professional standards, protect clients’ interests and respect the rule of law.
Advocate Aleksandra Penkowska’s participation in the event formed part of her engagement in the international activities of the Warsaw Bar Association through its Foreign Cooperation Committee.
