On July 1, 2020, the first year of operation of specialized intellectual property departments in five district courts in Poland passed. The need to establish IP courts with IP experts as judges has been raised by professionals in this field for many years, due to the complexity of IP cases and the growing number and specificity of IP proceedings.
Attorney trainee Paweł Poznański contacted the intellectual property departments in Gdańsk, Katowice, Lublin, Poznań and Warsaw and asked how the first year of operation has passed. On this basis, an article was prepared informing about the number of cases brought, their subject matter and new procedural measures, such as an application for securing evidence, a request for disclosure or issuing evidence, or requests for information.
